How Can severe Cough And Low Grade Fever Be Treated?

My son is not feeling well. Today he started a cough (Barky) and a low grade fever 100.0. And is extremely tired. He never takes naps and took three today. He woke up this morning with a stomachache bit said it felt fine by the afternoon. He's eating but way less than usual. Should I bring him the docotors?

Hello,
Thanks for trusting healthcaremagic!
I have gone through our query and I can understand your concerns.
All the symptoms you have mentioned suggestive of some minor respiratory tract infection. There is no need to worry as it can be cured with timely treatment and chances for complication are extremely rare.
I suggest you to consult a pediatrician or general practitioner and get the following things done:-
1.A short course of antibiotic therapy can be done using amoxicillin or cefixime.
2.For fever you can give acetaminophen. Tepid sponging with tap water can also be done to reduce body temperature.
3.Expectorant cough syrup can be tried to clear mucus and secretions.
4.Nasal decongestants and antihistamines like pheniramine can provide symptomatic relief.
5.Advise him to take plenty of water. He is fatigued may be due to dehydration. Rehydration can charge him up and fasten the recovery.
If the symptoms persist despite all these basic blood investigation and a chest X-ray may be needed to rule out lung conditions like pneumonia.

Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
